Sadistic Torture

Upheaval: Turning Points for Nations in Crisis

Jared Diamond

"But just six years after my visit in 1973, Chile was taken over by a military dictatorship that smashed previous world records for government perpetrated sadistic torture." - Jared Diamond, Upheaval: Turning Points for Nations in Crisis (2019)

Yup, humans sometimes empower states to meet their sadistic torture needs, so I guess we get to hear about that in this book. And someone made a pony drawing to represent some of the state activity. I'm not sure it's good taste, but anyway. You know, I am respectful, but reading history reminds me that my needs and human needs are not always congruent. But it's respect that helps both kinds appreciate diversity (and probably keeps me from getting tortured).
