Notes and Reflections on Books and Media

by Hannah Leitheiser

Fallout: Disasters, Lies, and the Legacy of the Nuclear Age

Fred Pearce

So, there are bits of hot stuff in the Earth. You can get them and put them together and make a rock that's always hot, then you can make steam and generate power. Very nice.

But wait, getting too close to the rock makes people sick. Even people far away from the rock can get a bit sick. That is not so good. That scares people.

And sometimes the rock can get too hot. That is bad, too. It can make fires, break things, and make explosions. It is a big problem because the rock keeps being hot.
