Do you need consent from a sex toy? I suppose no. So you draw a line somewhere on the chain of being. Above that requires consent. Only mentally healthy (able bodied?) sober adult human peers can give consent, so between those two marks is the no-go zone. I do see some inconsistencies with the system: do pigs consent to becoming bacon? Or if you want to talk sex, what about AI? But I guess this is the up-to-date ethical understanding, and you can usually expect ethics to give a pass to tradition.
