Secrets and Wives: The Hidden World of Mormon Polygamy
"And if he have ten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore is he justified." - Revelations through Joseph Smith from God
God helped Joseph Smith reflect on the Old Testament texts [that bounty of moral ideas for various fundamentalist faiths.] God was kind enough to deliver this message during a time when Joseph Smith's first wife was not so keen on plural marriage.
I observe that part of God's agenda seems to be to match older prophets whose authority may not be questioned in their communities with young girls -- sometimes many at once, sometimes before they are adults. Joseph Smith may have been commanded to take 30 wives. Former church leader Warren Jeffs was required to wed an estimated 70.
