That the Tyrant was enemy England, and electricity and Rousseau's idea of a simple natural man were the ultimate cool in France during Franklin's ambassadorship made the farmer in his "ostentatiously unostentatious" brown jacket a celebrity to eclipse the King in what, of course, might be regarded as foreshadowing.
