Notes and Reflections on Books and Media

by Hannah Leitheiser

mathematicians and physicists together

the elegant universe: superstrings, hidden dimensions, and the quest for the ultimate theory

brian greene

the author talkes about how string theory brings physicists and mathematicians together. my experience of physics is it can be fairly loose with mathematics, which means physics is not just a matter of logic but also experience in knowing what sorts of approximations you can get away with. i have less exposure to how mathematicians operate, but guess it's more formal. green compares them to modern and classical musicians.
