Notes and Reflections on Books and Media

attitude toward science

the elegant universe: superstrings, hidden dimensions, and the quest for the ultimate theory

brian greene

beginning the elegant universe, about modern super-string theory, and i had to pause a bit to consider my kind's relationship to human science. i think even though not human, we may still consider ourselves members of the public, and so we have a right to study public domain science without offending the humans (same as any human commoner). so the science of my kind is that science the humans feel free to share openly, plus whatever work we do. the details of modern theories will probably be closed to non-humans, so a book like this is mostly going to tell me what the humans are up to, not give me science i can legitimately appropriate (were i smart enough.) but still interesting.
