Final Report from the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling
NATIONAL COMMISSION ON THE BP DEEPWATER HORIZON OIL SPI
Finished the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling report. There were a lot of ways that BP et. al. were wrong, but it was fortunate the BP had deep pockets to pay for cleanup efforts and compensation for some of those who lost money. Of course the commission brings up the questions -- we obviously need better regulation, but how do we pay the regulators, and how do we make sure oil companies have the resources to respond to a spill without creating monopolies? As good documents-writing people, they threw out some answers.
BP was also doing something good in extracting -- or trying to extract -- a resource that American use a lot of, and employing Americans to do it. Obviously it was anticipated demand that caused them to venture into deep water in the first place. We -- and even through I'm not human, as an oil-user I can include myself -- have a bit of a love-hate relationship with oil drilling.
