Notes and Reflections on Books and Media

Orchids are Special

About Orchids, a Chat

Frederick Boyle

Finished "About Orchids, a Chat" by Boyle (1893). The book is an argument that regular people -- well, OK, gentlemen and gentlewomen -- may be able to grow Orchids themselves. It seems Orchid growing is mostly confined to a secretive group of specialists at the time of the writing.

Although I can't say I've learned much about Orchids, it does seem people have died in the quest for finding some treasure from South America. Pretty important plants to the right people.
