Worldwide Effects of Nuclear War: Some Perspectives

UNITED STATES ARMS CONTROL AND DISARMAMENT AGENCY

2016-11-20

Listened to a document on Worldwide Effects of Nuclear war. Nothing particularly new if you are somewhat familiar with the physics of nuclear detonations.

I do see that nuclear threats are not much in peoples' minds at current. Some is that I don't think any major power can make a convincing political case for nuclear offense. Nuclear weapons are coarse and will kill non-targets and will cause suffering from cancers. It would be hard to ethically justify such an attack when things like drones and conventional weapons can conduct more targeted damage. Nuclear stuff in general also scares people.

Now, some who are against the world powers may have the political will, but so far they either lack the infrastructure or nuclear is not a cost effective way to produce terror.
